Inaugural Ceremony

We are pleased to announce the successful inauguration of the Milon K. Banerji Arbitration Centre (MKBAC) at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, established through the generous endowment of Senior Advocate Gourab Banerji in honour of the late Shri Milon K. Banerji, former Attorney General for India.
At the inaugural ceremony, Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman [retd.], Chair, MKBAC, delivered a significant keynote addressing the DMRC v. DAMEPL judgment and proposing reforms to reduce judicial intervention in arbitration, alongside several personal anecdotes of working with the late Shri Banerji. Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya of the Telangana High Court discussed four landmark decisions that showcased the late Shri Banerji’s pioneering contributions to arbitration law.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Srikrishna Deva Rao and Senior Advocate Ritin Rai, Co-Chair, MKBAC, outlined the Centre’s vision to meaningfully conduct high-quality research and contribute to the global and domestic arbitration law discourse. The endurance of the late Shri Milon K Banerji’s legacy was proven once again with Sr. Adv. Gourab Banerji exemplifying the significance of high-quality research through a few of his father’s cases.
The MKBAC Podcast: Episode 1
We look forward to taking the vision of the Centre forward and contributing to the field of arbitration law and practice.
As we discuss in the first episode of our podcast, the Centre is conceptualized as a research, training and teaching centre which would serve as a hub for students, legal scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to converge, exchange ideas, educate and contribute to the evolution of arbitration practices.
